Latihan Saman
Hi guys....
Tak terasa sudah kali kedua kita latihan saman...
All the group members look so enthusiastic that everyone tries her/his effort to come and practice.
It is not so easy for some of us, yet, we always try to do the best.
So, we learn some new movements each day.........
Semua tampak semangat banget deh..
ada yang rela berkorban kakinya sampai sakit karena tidak biasa duduk dengan kaki seperti itu..
ada yang kadang masih kesulitan mengikuti gerakan tari yang memang sangat membutuhkan keahlian khusus:)
Tapi semua berusaha dengan keras untuk melakukan yang terbaik..
jadinya, hari sabtu pagi kita selalu menyenangkan, karena bisa ketemu teman2 sambil goyang saman:)
minggu ini adalah minggu ketiga latihan....mudah-mudahan semua anggota bisa datang dan melakukan yang terbaik..
karena saman ini adalah kerja team....

Initiating the next regeneration
Here is the invitation:
Dear friends,
I know that some of you are having hard time preparing mid term this week, hopefuly you are doing well and in the end having good grades.
Following informal talks about the Saman dance regeneration, I would like to invite you to the first meeting as well as set up the initial training program on: Saturday, October 7, 2006
time: 10-12am (please come on time)
Venue: Hale Halawai (alternatively: Hale Manoa 6th floor lounge)
The training will be projected for preparations towards future events season especially during spring 2007.
This time we will have plenty of International students from all over the world working and performing together with us forming an international Saman dance performance. So, don't miss this opportunity.

Vacuum season April - September 2006
The HPU event also marked the end of the performance season and enter the vacuum period as some of the performer finished their study and went back to Indonesia. Hopefully the next generation will be coming on Fall 2006.
And guess what? During those time we had a guess, precisely, BYUH students in Laie who are willing to learn the Saman dance visited us in Manoa and had a short coaching with us. The practice was held in Hale Halawai. Now, they can performed the dance as well.
Finally, more and more people are having fun.

Saman in East West Fest 2006 and HPU Intercultural Day April 2006
East West Fest 2006 is an annual event held by East West Center Participant Association. It is a cultural event showing performer from many different countries. Beside cultural performances the event also organizing booths from countries around the world. Indonesian student participated in booth and performances namely Saman dance, Bali dance, Yospan dance and gamelan.
Saman performed in HPU Intercultural Day. We won a 2nd place. Although we could not received the price due to lack of Indonesian club in HPU. We were happy and proud to be a representative of Indonesia in this event.

Indonesian Cultural Event 2006
“A New Day Arises Through Hope”
A celebration of Indonesian culture will showcase contemporary Indonesian movies, performances of traditional dances and music, and also a one-week gallery exhibition at The ARTS at Marks Garage.

Mostly refreshing yet compelling, the movies selected to be shown are contemporary movies that portray the lives of young people in Jakarta. Written and directed by young and talented Indonesian filmmakers, these movies have received various awards at the 2005 Indonesian Film Festival as well as being nominated at several International Film Festivals. An evening of Indonesian traditional cultural performances is sure to be entertaining. Audience will be presented with colorful and exotic traditional dances and music such as Balinese and Kakula Gamelan, Saman dance from Aceh, Balinese and Javanese dances, and many more.

Saman in Jhankar March 26, 2006
Saman performed in Jhankar presented by Milun, an Association for Promoting South Asian Culture. March 26, 2006 (Sunday) @ Art Auditorium, UH Campus: 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm. There were several traditional performances from countries in South Asia, Saman is the only performance coming from South East Asia country.

2006 International Night offers "Mixed Plate Under the Rainbow"
UH Manoa’s International Student Association (ISA) will offer a potpourri of culture, costumes and ethnic entertainment at the annual International Night program Friday, March 17, 2006 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening’s events are free and open to the public at the Campus Center Ballroom.
From ISA: This year’s theme, “A Mixed Plate Under the Rainbow,” illustrates how we all come together under one rainbow, regardless of nationality, to create a mixed plate of cultures in one of the most diverse places in the world. International Night 2006 will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about these varied cultures. This is an amazingly fun event with lots of incredible door prizes! We hope to see you there!
